Water shortage in Kathmnadu is a huge problem. Amid this, it is good to know that the government is diverting water from the Bagmati River so that the denizens can now have water supply for two hours, five days a week. This measure will help give some respite to the on-going water crisis in the Capital. The people of Kathmandu have waited for Melamchi for too-long. At times, it feels like we have been fooled and are living on false hopes. But hopefully, the long-delayed Melamchi project will soon be completed and the residents no more have to face any trouble to fetch water. Water crisis is a problem worldwide. However, it is imperative to understand that the problem is caused not because there is insufficient water to meet demandsof the people. There is a looming crisis because we misuse water that is available to us. As long as we continue doing so, no amount of Melamchi water can ever fulfil our needs.
