The road sections at Gerkhutar, Tirtirebhir, Khoppan cliff, Lingling and Timure among other areas of Pasang Lhamu Highway have been damaged by the landslides and floods. Vehicular movements along the Nepal-China road link have been affected after the rain-swollen streams damaged sections of the road.
Niraj Shakya, chief of the DRO, said the vehicular movement along Dhunche-Syaphrubeshi road has come to a halt for the last two weeks. “Now, Kali Prasad Battalion and technicians of the Mailu Syaphrubeshi Road Construction Taskforce are helping us resume some vehicular movement,” said Shakya.
The DRO has been using excavators and loaders to clear the landslide debris from the damaged road sections. Meanwhile, more than 1,200 container trucks have been stranded in the Chinese border town of Kerung for the last one month after the Ghattekhola Bridge at Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-2 in the district was destroyed by flood.
The DRO said that repair works of the damaged bridge has been completed now. “We will have to wait until the concrete sets in the foundation of the bridge,” said Shakya. Businessmen said container trucks loaded with goods for Teej, Dashain and Tihar festivals have been stranded in Kerung. They have been hiring porters to transport goods in Rasuwagadhi, Ghattekhola and Khopang Bhir areas.
