Dying embers

- Sandesh Pandey

Aug 29, 2018-

His body shivered

With his head bent down

He tried too hard

To just seal the magic

The magic of his words

We all questioned

Could he, would he

… pull it off?

My father used to be a confident man

But now,

he only murmured something

And before it turned into anything

It became nothing

They laughed

His feet that once

took him miles away

Took him a couple

of steps

behind today

I could have, would have

done something

I wasn’t helpless,

But I pretended that I was

The battle was his

He was the warrior

He stopped,

lifted his head,

faced the crowd,

held the mic once again,

And everything,

every single thing changed

As the words escaped his mouth

It sealed theirs

For they created magic

For they rekindled the dying embers
