Philippine debt balloons to over $132 billion

The Philippines’ outstanding debt ballooned to 7.04 trillion pesos (roughly $132 billion as of end-July this year due to domestic and foreign borrowings, the government has said. Data released by the Bureau of Treasury on Friday said the total outstanding debt rose by 27.40 billion pesos (roughly $504 million) or 0.4 percent increase from the 7.02 trillion pesos (roughly $131 billion) incurred in June.   Of the total stock, 34.68 percent were sourced externally while 65.32 percent were borrowed domestically, the Treasury said in a statement. The Treasury said the domestic debt amounted to 4.6 trillion pesos (roughly $86 billion), or 0.5 percent higher compared to the end-June level. (XINHUA)
