The route had been obstructed for a month after the Ghattekhola bridge at Goisainkunda Rural Municipality-2 was damaged by a flood. Landslides and floods triggered by incessant rains also damaged the road sections at Gerkhutar, Tirtirebhir, Khopagn cliff, Lingling and Timure, among other areas, of the Pasang Lhamu Highway.
DRO chief Niraj Shakya said they had already completed repair works on the damaged Ghattekhola bridge last Wednesday. Security personnel of Kalijang Battalion, technicians of the DRO and Mailung Syaphru Road Construction Taskforce were deployed to clear the landslide debris from the damaged road sections, said Shakya.
Container trucks laden with goods for Teej, Dashain and Tihar festivals have been stranded in Kerung since July 28, according to traders. Some of them had also hired porters to transport goods from the damaged road sections.
Rasuwagadhi is currently the only route connecting China’s Tibet with Nepal after the northern neighbour decided to close the Kodari route and replace it with the mountain crossing at Rasuwagadhi following the devastating earthquake of 2015.
