Speaking about her participation, Chhetri Gautam informed that 12 of her designs will be on display at the show. “I am presenting designs that are basically western outfits with Nepali cultural motifs,” she said.
Previously, Gautam’s work had also been featured in fashion shows in New York and London.
Gautam said that ultimately she wants to establish a fashion college in Nepal. “I am currently researching fashion industries around the world. Nepal’s place in the world fashion map is negligible,” Gautam said. “I want to change that.”
Besides her work in the fashion industry, Gautam is also involved in film production with her debut production, Ajhai Pani, set to be announced soon. The other Nepali representative at the Paris show, Rabin Pariyar, could not be contacted for comment. Gautam and Pariyar’s works will be showcased alongside international fashion designers such as Samina Mughal (USA), Modish & Swank (USA), Fuschia (UK), and DIIT Couture (France).
The show will feature live musical performance by American singer-songwriter Michelle Green, who is also hosting the show alongside Stephanie Almeida.
The show will take place at the Hilton Paris Opera on Sept 12 and 13.
