Aathbiskot Municipality in Rukum district has started to provide education loans to the deserving students for higher technical education .

The municipality has partnered with Aathbiskot Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited to provide a loan of Rs 4-5 million to the students taking pilot and MBBS courses.

“The municipal office will pay interest of the loans while the students study.

The students will only have to pay back the principal amount after they get employed,” said Mayor Gorkha Bahadur KC.

This year, the municipality has decided to provide education loans to Lalit Bhandari of ward no 5 and Govinda KC of ward no 10 to support their dreams of becoming commercial pilots.

The municipal office has also requested the students to register loan applications for engineering and MBBS

courses.  

The municipality has formed an Education Loan Fund to pay the interest of the loans. “We have deposited Rs 10 million in the fund this year,” said KC. Two nursing students and three overseer students received education loans from the municipality this fiscal year.
