Nepal kick off their campaign of the four-team tournament playing against National Cricket Academy (NCA) U-19—a team of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC)—on September 12 in an event organised by the sport’s governing body of India. Nepal will also get the opportunity to play at the iconic Eden Gardens cricket stadium of Kolkata.
The team was picked up by a selection committee headed by ICC Representative Aminul Islam and U-19 head coach Binod Das, who is also assisted by coaches Sunoj Bhattarai and Raju Khadka. The Nepali team is travelling for the tournament on September 10. The players were picked up from the team that played the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in Malaysia last year as well as from ACC U-16 Eastern Region Tournament in Singapore and from the open selection.
Sheikh, brother of national team middle order batsman Aarif, will lead the squad that also includes his U-19 Asia Cup teammates Pawan Sarraf, Rashid Khan, Bhim Sharki, Kishor Mahato, Kamal Singh Airee and Sandeep Jora. Trit Raj Das, Ravi Sah, Bipin Rawal, Lokesh Bam, Rit Gautam, Sagar Dhakal, Arun Airee and Samsad Alam are the other members of the team.
After the first match against NCA, Nepal will play India U-19 at the Eden Gardens on September 14 before taking on the Afghanistan at the Jadhavpur University grounds one day later. Following the round robin league the top two teams will play for the title on September 18.
