RJP-N to protest on Constitution Day
Sep 12, 2018-
As the government prepares to celebrate the Constitution Day on September 19 with much fanfare, the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has decided to protest the event reiterating its displeasure at the charter promulgated three years ago.
The party formed after the merger of six Madhes-based forces on April 20 last year also protested against the statute on the 2017 Constitution Day across Madhes. The Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal, which is now in government, was another prominent party that highlighted constitutional provisions it deemed unfair to the people of Madhes.
The SSF-N is a coalition partner while the RJP-N supports the Nepal Communist Party-led government. Both the parties are pressing for constitutional amendments.
“Since the anti-Madhes constitution was promulgated on September 19, the day will be observed by organising various protest programmes,” reads the RJP-N circular issued after a two-day meeting of the party presidium on Tuesday.
The party has directed its lower committees to stage demonstrations and protest meetings in the afternoon and to enforce a 15-minute blackout in the evening.
The party also boycotted the meeting held at the Home Ministry on September 2 called to chart out the plan for marking the day and to form an organising committee.
