Street song

- Salim Maharjan

Sep 12, 2018-

Stresses surmount, my debts are high

Alone and miserable, in the

streets I lie

I want to smile but without it,

make do

There is nowhere else for me to go to

In the darkness, I await a light

A moment of happiness, a moment’s delight

Swirling symphonies, do not

touch me

I am a beggar, begging for food, beauty mocks me

The night falls quick, so what? I never sleep

So heavy my heart sinking deep

Abysmal my chest, wrapped in tattered vest

Marked is my face for such a wretched fate

I dream sometimes of a place far away

bereft of these needless cruelties, Where people live with dignity

I want to go there someday, what wondrous thought it is

The only thing that keeps me alive

- Maharjan is an student at Kathmandu University
