The city-based franchise cricket tournament is scheduled for October 26 to November 6 in Pokhara. According to the three-year agreement, Himalaya HD will broadcast all matches of PPL live for the next three editions. The deal is worth Rs 30.7 million in cash and kind.
Queens Events Managing Director Chhumbi Lama and Himalaya TV Chairman Dharma Raj Bhushal signed the MoU during a press conference on Friday. Bhushal said PPL was a perfect platform to revive the television. “We are soon going into high definition and to get the opportunity to live telecast a tournament of this magnitude is a great honour for us,” said Bhushal.
“Broadcasting cricket matches live is going to be a big challenge but we are ready with all the required resources. We are hopeful that we can give the best television experience with this tournament,” he added. Lama thanked Himalaya TV for the deal.
A total of six teams will participate in the PPL which will be preceded by auction of home grown cricketers. Lama said the unveiling of icon players and auction of the cricketers will be held at the end of the month. The company will also hold an U-16 cricket tournament which has been named as Junior PPL, prior to the start of the tournament.
