The government has shortlisted six companies to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for Nagdhunga (Kathmandu)-Dhulikhel (Sindhupalchowk) metro rail project.

The Investment Board Nepal is coordinating the construction of the 45-kilometre project. Board Spokesperson Uttam Bhakta Wagle said, consultant companies from China, India, Korea, Turkey and Japan are shortlisted for the feasibility of project.
The companies are—China Machinery Engineering Corporation, China Railway Siyuan and Survey and Design Group Co. Ltd, Nippon Koei Company Limited, Japan; Rites India Limited and one company each from Seoul (South Korea) and Turkey. The advance metro railway network operates in many metropolitan cities across the world. The Board has initiated the process to construct such railway for the first time in the country.
The consultants have to submit their tenders within 30 days to prepare the DPR, Wagle said.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City and other local agencies have started the process to construct mono railway network around the Ring Road in Kathmandu.
The China Railway 25th Bureau Group Company Limited has recently submitted the report of the preliminary feasibility study for operating mono railway from the Ring Road to Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
