Thapa slams immature diplomacy of Oli government
Sep 25, 2018-
Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has accused the Nepal Communist Party-led government of lacking maturity when handling the matter of international relations.
As Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli could not clearly present his remarks to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during the recently concluded Kathmandu summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economi Cooperation (BIMSTEC), the whole country had to face the debacle over joint military exercise, Thapa said at a programme in Palpa on Monday.
According to the NC leader, the government first agreed to take part in the military exercise, only to withdraw its decision after facing a barrage of criticism from different quarters. The episode shows that the government needs to mature a lot on the diplomatic front, he added.
Thapa also accused the Oli government of suppressing press freedom through the recently enforced Civil Code and Criminal Code.
