Parliamentary committee vows to fight sexual violence

Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the Federal Parliament has vowed to organise activities to control the incidents of gender based violence that have increased in the country of late. Likewise, the committee shall effectively monitor and protect the rights of children and senior citizens.
A meeting of the Committee held at Singh Durbar on Tuesday decided to carry out the activities related to women, children and senior citizens with transparency.
Nirudevi Pal, committee president, said the Committee would take special initiatives to minimise the incidents of rape, murder and violence against women, and would take legal actions against the guilty.
The Committee further said it would draw the attention of all bodies concerned to the issue and launch awareness campaign across the country with the help of Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen.
Committee members including Parbat Gurung, Ganesh Thagunna, Laxmi Pariyar, Hira Gurung, Amrita Thapa Magar, Khem Prasad Lohani and Kumari Meche stressed the need for the committee to monitor the activities of different commissions.
The members said the Committee should regulate the activities of NGOs as well as monitor their fund mobilisation.
The meeting also formed a sub-committee to formulate working procedures and regulations for the Committee.
