Sep 26, 2018-
Nepal’s leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane’s globetrotting career got yet another lift after the teenager was picked up to play the second edition of T10 Cricket League.
The T10 Cricket League is a 10-over franchise-based event participated in by some top-notch cricketers of the world. The second edition will be held in Dubai from November 23 to December 2. Lamichhane was bought by Kerala Kings from Monday’s draft pick for $30,000. He was picked up in the third round of the draft.
Kerala Kings are the defending champions of the T10 League which previously was a six-team event. Karachians and the Northern Warriors are the two new teams in the tournament. Team Sri Lanka has been renamed as Team Rajasthani Heroes from this edition. Punjabi Legends, Rajputs, Bengal Tigers, Pakhtoon and Maratha Arabians are other five teams in the tournament.
England skipper Eoin Morgan had led Kings to title in the first edition of the tournament which has been approved by the International Cricket Council. Twenty20 cricket’s globetrotting star Chris Gayle of the West Indies, his teammate Kieron Pollard, Pakistan’s Sohail Tanveer, England’s Tom Curran, Sri Lanka’s Niroshan Dickwella and Dasun Shanaka are some of the renowned names in the Kings squad.
For Lamichhane, this will be his fifth franchise event after beginning his nomadic professional cricket journey though the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played for the Delhi Daredevils. The IPL stint, where he featured in the last four matches for the Daredevils, was followed by Global Twenty20 Challenge in Canada and Caribbean Premier League in the West Indies.
Lamichhane, currently preparing for Nepal’s ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers Asia (Eastern Region), has also been snapped up to play in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL). Lamichhane, however, will join the Afghani League after finishing Nepal’s first round of Qualifiers in Malaysia.
The Qualifiers is scheduled for October 3-12, while the APL begins from October 5-21 in the United Arab Emirates. Nepal are playing Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Bhutan and China in the Eastern Region Qualifiers from where the top three teams will make it to the Asia Region Qualifiers. The top two teams from Asia Region will enter the Global Qualifiers for the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in Australia in 2020.
