Call to follow animal transport guidelines

Kathmandu

Oct 14, 2018-

The Department of Livestock Service has warned of action against anyone found transporting livestock on the rooftop or compartment of passenger vehicles. The department has appealed to all concerned to follow the Livestock Service Act 2055 and Livestock Transportation Standard 2064. As per the regulations, one can be fined up to five thousand rupees or jailed for three months if found guilty of committing such acts. The statement was issued in view of the upcoming Dashain festival when the transportation of livestock for meat consumption is at its highest. As per the guidelines, certification of origin and a verification by a registered vet is a must to transport livestock from one district to another, and efforts must be made to treat the animals and poultry humanely.
