DIG among four people dead in Kavre road accidents
Four people died in separate road accidents in Kavre district on Saturday afternoon. Three persons, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Sushil Bhandari, died in a jeep accident at Dhakathok of Mandandeupur Municipality-6 in the district, police said. Station Manager of Radio Gaurav, Dhulikhel Jiban Parajuli and leader of a trade union close to Nepali Congress Binod Karki of Namobuddha Municipality-10 were also killed when the jeep (Ba 3 Cha 287) they were travelling in veered 500 metres off the road along the Helambu Highway.
Parajuli and Karki died on the spot, while critically injured DIG Bhandari died during the course of treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital, according to Superintendent of Police Rabiraj Khadka. Three others—Pradip Bogati, Dhanraj Puri and Binod Gautam—have sustained injuries in the accident.
Bogati, who was driving the vehicle, said the jeep skidded and fell off the road as he was trying to negotiate the vehicle around a sagging high-tension power line on the route. The injured are receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman died after a tipper hit a motorcycle in Panchkhal Municipality-6. Ranjana Gautam, who was riding pillion, died after the tipper (Ba 3 Ka 643) coming from the same direction hit the motorcycle at Piple Bazaar in the municipality-6 at around 4pm.
