Pokhara sees rise in dengue patients

Seven new cases of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease more prevalent in Tarai districts, were reported in Pokhara on Sunday, pushing the number of patients to 35 in the past one-and-a-half months.
Health workers said some patients undergoing treatment at Pokhara Regional Hospital, Phewa City Hospital, Charak Memorial and Gandaki Medical College who might have been infected with dengue.
Chief of the Pokhara Metropolis Health Division Hemanta Sharma said this is the first time that such a large number of dengue patients have been reported in Pokhara.
“We have been conducting awareness campaigns in various wards of the metropolis to control the disease,” said Sharma.
Vector Control Inspector of the Health Office Yam Baral said three seriously-ill patients were referred to Kathmandu for treatment.
The disease has mostly affected the residents of Pokhara-8, along with some residents of Pokhara-5, 9 and 15. High fever, headache, body rashes and ache are common symptoms of dengue.
People diagnosed with dengue in Kanchanpur
KANCHANPUR: At least nine people have been infected with dengue in Kanchanpur district within the last two months. According to the Mahakali Zonal Hospital, out of blood samples from 56 patients, nine tested positive for dengue. A hospital worker said that two dengue patients are still receiving treatment. Last year, four cases of dengue were reported in the district.
