The Citizens’ Struggle Committee along with Nirmala Pant’s parents submitted a memorandum to the Provincial Government for the second time on Wednesday. In the memorandum, they have demanded the authorities to provide justice to Nirmala who was found raped and murdered in a sugarcane field in Bhimdutta Municipality-18, Kanchanpur, on July 27, a day after she was reported missing.
Two months ago, Nirmala’s parents and activists had submitted a similar memorandum to CM Trilochan Bhatta of Sudur Pashchim Province. It has been more than three months since the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant.
“We have not demanded for anything big. All we want is justice. So why is the provincial government not doing anything?” Durgadevi said to the CM.
The activists also expressed their dissatisfaction and anger to the CM and criticised the provincial government of not ensuring proper investigation and action into the case.
Nirmala’s relatives and the women’s group had gone to Dhangadhi from Kanchanpur to submit the memorandum to CM Bhatta.
“We cast our votes to you when you ask for it. Why are you not doing anything now?” Meena Bhandari, coordinator of the struggle committee, asked the CM.
The activists said they are saddened by the provincial government’s lack of effort to find the perpetrators. The provincial government has not demanded for stern action against the culprits, they say.
CM Bhatta said, “We are doing our best to find the perpetrators. The provincial government will also help with the treatment of people injured in the protests.”
Representatives of the struggle committee said they will now pressurise the provincial government to take action against the rapist and murderer of Nirmala.
