Wild elephants have been wreaking havoc at Ichchhanagar in Thori Rural Municipality-2, Parsa, for the last one month.
According to locals, the elephants from Chitwan National Park have already destroyed paddy planted on 25 bighas of land and damaged some houses in the area.
Farmers in Ichchhanagar had planted paddy on around 60 bighas of land this year.
Bikash Bista, a local, said, “These elephants enter our farmland on a daily basis. They have destroyed my ready-to-harvest paddy planted on two katthas of land.”
Bista said the elephants have already destroyed paddy worth around Rs 1.6 million this year alone.
Pathani Kanchhi, another local, said the elephants destroyed her house and ate up her paddy.
People have been compelled to spend many sleepless nights in the last month due to frequent wild elephants’ menace, Kanchhi added.
