Chief minister sacks Sthapit
Nov 3, 2018-
Chief Minister of Province 3 Dormani Poudel on Friday sacked his physical infrastructure development minister Keshav Sthapit after consulting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Following a heated exchange with the minister Sthapit on Wednesday during a provincial cabinet meeting, CM Poudel, along with Financial Affairs and Planning Minister Kailash Dhungel, came to Kathmandu on Thursday for consultation with the ailing PM on the matter.
“Poudel himself will look after the ministry for now,” said Anup Poudel, personal secretary to the chief minister.
Sthapit had reacted aggressively when chief minister commented that the Sthapit-led ministry had failed to perform as expected while the minister had blamed the tardy procurement process.
“He had never accepted Poudel as the chief minister ever since he became a minister. He was not in working terms with CM Poudel,” said Shalikram Jamarkattel, the minister for internal affairs and law. Sources claimed that Poudel had told Oli that he would not be able to continue working with Sthapit. Refusing to comment on the decision, Sthapit said he had not received information about the CM’s action against him. He would express his views only after meeting top party leaders including the prime minister.
A former Kathmandu mayor, Sthapit has got into a controversy after a former municipal staff and a journalist accused him of sexual harassment. He has denied the allegations.
