Central bank to swap old notes with new during all festivals

Nepal’s indigenous citizens and linguistic communities can exchange old notes with new currency bills during their festivals, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has said.

The central bank’s move follows its decision to implement the inclusive rule for all communities. Thus far, NRB exchange new notes in large quantities only during Bada Dashain. NRB’s Currency Management Division said citizens of all castes, different ethnic and linguistic groups can avail this facility during their particular festival season as well on National Day.

According to the Division, citizens can exchange old currency bills with new ones during festivals: Ubhauli Parba, Buddha Jayanti, Gaijatra, Gaura Parba, Haritalika, Constitution Day, Republic Day, Indra Jatra, Jitiya Parba, Tihar, Chhath, Phalgunanda Jayanti, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Udhauli Parba, Yomari Punhi (Jyapu Diwas), Christmas, Lhosar, Maghi Parba, Maha Shivaratri, Phalgu Poornima, Ghodejatra, Eid, and National Days as well as the New Year, The new notes are available at NRB Office in Thapathali, Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.
