Landslides obstruct Kodari Highway
Nov 13, 2018-
Traffic along Kodari Highway has come to a halt following Sunday’s landslides at Liping and Kodari.
The highway, which was heavily damaged in the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake and the 2016 Bhote Koshi flood, was opened temporarily to ease the movement of goods and people.
The landslides have also affected the construction of Liping road, which is being built by China Railway Construction Corporation.
The corporation had started the repair of Liping road after completing the reconstruction of Tatopani-Piplang road.
“The ongoing construction of support pillars had to be stopped after the landslide debris accumulated at the construction site,” said DSP of the Armed Police Force Krishna Gopal Gurung.
There’s a continuous landslide above the Kodari road section since Saturday.
The Chinese government has directed the corporation to construct the infrastructure at Tatopani, the border point between Nepal and China, and the Kodari road section within eight months.
