Road rebuilding crawls as blame game continues

Trading blame between reconstruction authority and departments continues to harangue construction of roads under Earthquake Emergency Assistance Project.

A meeting called by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Tuesday attempted to resolve work issues involving electricity, land surveying and forest departments to facilitate reconstruction of Kavre-Sindhupalchok and Dhading-Gorkha road sections.

Although department officials agreed to resolve all issues and move forward Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) tickled a raw nerve, saying its task of relocating power cable pylons would be easy if the roads authority marks points to install the pylons.

NEA Deputy Executive Director Har Raj Neupane said, “It would be easy for them (NEA) to expedite the task of relocating polls in Kavre-Sindhupalchok road section had the roads authority marked points to install the poles.”

The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), in a statement said, Neupane informed the authority that NEA has already given out the contract of relocating electric cable pylons for the Panchkhal-Melamchi road section.

The NEA has instructed its agencies to relocate remaining electric cable pylons polls in the Dhading-Gorkha road section, Neupane said.

The Department of Forest Under Secretary Nabin Giri said the authority would allow chopping trees as soon as it receives a letter from the National Planning Commission stating the Panchkhal-Melamchi roads carries national importance.

The Department of Survey Director General Ganesh Prasad Bhatta said the agency would demarcate the boundary or roads and personal property as soon as it receives details of land registration from the Land Revenue Offices.

The NRA Chief Executive Sushil Gyewali has urged all authorities to give special consideration and facilitate reconstruction of the country’s important infrastructure.
