Police on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old man suspected to have placed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Nepalgunj.
Police detained Jarakot resident Pradeep Oli after analysing CCTV video recording. They presented the suspect to the press reporters on Friday.
Oli was arrested for placing the IED under the statue of communist leader Pushpa Lal Shrestha on Thursday. Nepal Army bomb disposal squad defused the explosive later.
Superintendent of Police Arun Paudel said their preliminary investigation does not find the suspect linked to any radical organisation.
“Pradeep Oli is not affiliated to any party or organisation,” the SP told journalists.
Oli had gone in search of a job to Shimla, the capital city of Indian state Himachal Pradesh. Apparently, he was there for five years. He learnt to assemble a crude bomb while he was working there as a labourer, police said.
The security personnel confiscated Rs 41,000 cash, a bank cheque and SIM cards of various telecom service providers from Oli.The suspect claimed he is the chairman of an organisation called Sundar Shanta Nepal and he operates a commando group.
Police recovered some pamphlets linked to the Commando group from the incident site.
Local residents were terrified as the pamphlets warned the object was a ‘powerful bomb’ and the impact of the explosion would damage everything around 300 metres from it.
