Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed discontent over the pace of development activities during his own administration’s nine months in office and blamed faulty policy recommendations for the delays.

Oli made the remarks during an introductory meeting of the Policy Research Academy, the think tank established in September to conduct research and recommend initiatives for the government.

“All the policies dogging the development works must be corrected,” he said, urging the newly formed think tank to develop national policies by coordinating with ministries, the National Planning Commission, and national universities.

The PM said that his administration would not intervene or put pressure on the activities of the academy, assuring the government’s full support to its research.

“There won’t be room for intervention in the reports brought forward by the academy through independent research,” said Oli, who added that his administration would accept its recommendations with necessary inputs.

During the meeting, Chairman of the academy Chaitanya Mishra made a presentation on its objectives and its future plan.

A Cabinet meeting in September had formed the think tank—identified as Niti Anusandhan Pratisthan—under Mishra with Mina Acharya, Rajendra Dhwoj Joshi, Surendra Labh and Ganesh Gurung as members.

It was formed in line with the government’s policies and programmes for the current fiscal year which states that a think tank of experts will be arranged to regularly recommend the government, through study and research, on development, construction, security, foreign relations, and good governance fields.

The academy will function as a permanent body under the Prime Minister’s Office and could expand its organisation as required.
