Nepal’s leg-spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane has once again proved his readiness to take on the world in any format of cricket after giving a man-of-the-match performance in his debut at the T10 League in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday.
Lamichhane has already established himself as a key figure in national cricket team’s progress as a One Day International nation early this year. His mesmerizing spells has already lured franchises of lucrative Twenty20 leagues across the world—the latest being a contract with Lahore Qalandars for next year’s Pakistani Super League.
T10—a 10-over-a-side contest—is the shortest version of cricket which was introduced from last year through the T10 League. Lamichhane had said he would make the most of the latest opportunity he earned after sealing the contract with Kerala Knights for a sum of US$ 30,000. And in the first two matches of the tournament, he has justified the faith holder the Kerala Knights had put in him by picking up four wickets.
On Thursday, Lamichhane bowled economically picking up 1-14 from two overs in a match against Sindhis which the Knights lost by nine wickets. He conceded 10 runs in the first over but bounced back in the second over picking up the wicket of Anton Devcich, who had set the tone for Sindhis chase scoring an important 20-ball 49 with four boundaries and four sixes. Lamichhane conceded four runs inhis second over and ended up as the most economical bowler of the match.
Knights had made 103-7 with a half century from Wayne Parnell (59 not out) before Sindhis reached the target without much of the fuss. Australian batsman Shane Watson struck a 24-ball 50 with four boundaries and four sixes
for Sindhis.
Lamichhane had a brilliant night in the first match against Pakhtoons on Wednesday taking 3-17 while
restricting the opponents for 109-5 in 10 overs. Skipper Eoin Morgan (46 not out off 20) and Irish Paul Stirling (14-ball 40) did the rest as Knights reached 110-2 in 7.5 overs.
Morgan introduced Lamichhane in the fifth over with Pakhtoons going strong at 48-1 in four overs. Lamichhane did the trick after West Indian Andre Fletcher tried to launch him over long off but ended up holing out a catch to Morgan in the first delivery. The Nepali bowler was then hit for 10 runs in the next four balls but bounced back strongly getting rid of New Zealander Colin Ingram (one). He returned in the seventh over conceding just seven runs and picked up the wicket of Muhammad Kaleem, who was
out for duck.
