Province 2 government has been making preparations to perform Bibaha Panchami ceremony.
On Saturday, a team of provincial government visited the Janaki Temple to monitor the ongoing preparations for the ceremony. Chief Minister of Province-2 Lalbabu Raut and his team also visited Rangabhumi Maidan where the wedding procession (baraat) event will be organised.
The provincial government has ramped up preparations with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath set to lead the baraat from India (Ayodhya) to the Ram-Janaki Temple in Janakpur to celebrate the Bibaha Panchami, the day Ram and Sita got married, on December 12. The provincial government also started groundwork for Adityanath’s visit and printed banners and pamphlets to announce his arrival.
Though Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take part in the Bibaha Panchami ceremony, Modi cancelled his visit to Nepal and deputed Adityanath to attend the religious event due to state assembly elections commitments in India. The provincial government has allocated Rs 5 million for the ceremony.
Bibaha Panchami is celebrated annually by re-enacting the marriage ceremony of Ram and Sita as mentioned in Hindu epic Ramayan. Every five years, a large number of Hindu saints from the Indian ancient city of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Ram, attend the week long festival.
Mahantha Ramroshan Das of Janaki Temple said the ceremony will become special this year because of the baraat of CM Adityanath. However, Adityanath’s visit has sparked a controversy after the Nepal government said it has no information about his plan. According to Indian Embassy official, Adtiyanath would return after attending the Bibaha Panchami.
