Domestic violence comprises 65 percent of violence against women, according to a new book ‘Anweshi’, released here on Sunday to roll the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.

Published by Women Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), the book compiles analyses of one-year data on violence against women (VAW).

The numbers of VAW and complaints increased last year. WOREC member Durga Karki said it would be ideal to make the data on VAW more systematic for effective advocacy on women rights.

At an event held at the office of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma said increase in the number of women representatives at the local level could help reduce the VAW.

The rights watchdog trains office bearers of the legal committees.

Nepal Police Additional Inspector General Thule Rai said, “Nepal Police is ready to co-ordinate and collaborate with the local levels and rights defenders.”
