Student intake rises 2pc in 3 years at Tribhuvan University

The student enrolment rate at the Tribhuvan University— which had significantly dwindled in the past— has increased by two percent in the past three years.
In the academic calendar 2071-72 BS, a total 298,990 students enrolled at the TU and this number increased to 360,254 in the year 2072-73 BS. The rate has been on the rise since then.
According to TU Planning Directorate Chief Prof Dr Rhidish Kumar Pokhrel, the university witnessed a fall in the enrollment rate, especially in the Faculty of Humanities, from the 2069-70 BS, but with the introduction of new disciplines in the university, the rate has been gradually increasing.
Prof Dr Shiba Lal Bhusal, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the TU, said the univeristy has introduced new subjects like Conflict, Peace and Development Studies; International Relations and Diplomacy; Social Work; Counseling Psychology; Sports Science; Tourism and Hospitality in Master’s degree; Bachelor of Computer Application and Bachelor of Social Work.
The latest university data shows the enrollment of women in the TU has gone up by 34 percent in recent years. However, there has been a decline in the student’s enrollment in Nepali, History and Linguistics.
