Fires destroy properties worth Rs 10m, kill one

An elderly man died and properties worth nearly Rs 10 million were destroyed in separate fire incidents in Dolakha, Darchula and Dang districts on Monday. In Dolakha, 75-year-old Bal Bahadur Thami died when the tarpaulin tent he was staying in caught fire at Bigu Rural Municipality-8. Thami, a quake-victim, had slept by the fire that caught his makeshift shelter, police said. In Darchula, properties worth Rs 8 million were destroyed when a cloth store caught fire at Mahakali Municipality-4. Police suspected that an electric short circuit might have caused the fire. The fire was contained with the help of security personnel and locals. Similarly, properties worth Rs 1.2 million were destroyed when a fire broke out at RK Electronics Serve at Ghorahi Sub Metropolitan City-15 in Dang. The fire, which is suspected to have been caused by an electric circuit, was put out with the help of fire fighters. (PR)
