The delay in the progress of Postal Highway Project, unresolved Nirmala Pant rape and murder case and the embezzlement scandal surrounding the purchase of two wide-body aircraft were among the issues that figured on Friday’s Upper House meeting.
The MPs expressed concern over the delay and the lack of quality workmanship in the construction of the Postal Highway, which is considered the lifeline of the Tarai.
They pointed out the government’s failure to monitor the project to ensure the quality and steady work progress.
MP Chakra Prasad Snehi hit out at the government for failing to pay attention towards several problems seen the project. He also blamed the contractor for negligence in executing the project effectively. MP Tara Devi Bhatta complained about the failure of the government to solve the Nirmala Pant murder case. The 13-year-old from Kanchanpur was raped and murdered on July 26. Nearly six months after her death, the authorities are yet to identify the perpetrators in the crime.
MP Binda Devi Rana and MP Ramesh Yadav demanded that the government take action against those involved in the embezzlement of billions of rupees while purchasing two Airbus A330 jets.
MP Singha Bahadur BK urged the government to provide proper relief to the victims of Jure landslide in Sindhupalchok district.
The government has announced to provide relief grants on part with the survivors of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. MP BK said the amount was not sufficient as the families hit by the Jure landslide had also suffered devastation from the earthquake.
