Top French diplomat to visit Nepal

Secretary General of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs Maurice Gourdault-Montagne is arriving here on January 9 on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi.The first high-level visit from the French government in recent times coincides with the preparations being carried by the two countries to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The two foreign secretaries will hold a bilateral meeting on January 9. That will be followed by a press conference where the Foreign Ministry will a launch year-long programme to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Nepal and France.
The meeting will dwell on all issues of bilateral interest, Bairagi said, adding that discussions would also be held about various programmes the two countries will be organising throughout 2019 to mark the occasion. April 20 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Nepal and France.
A Goodwill Ambassador for the 70th anniversary and a special commemorative logo along with major commemorative events in 2019 would also be presented to the media during the press conference.
