For the first time in the history of Nepalese tourism, the Buddhist International Travel Mart came into being from 11th January 2019 (‘Buddhist Travel Mart to kick off on Jan 12’, December 26, 2018, TKP Online). Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board said that the organisers plan to make the Buddhist International Travel Mart an annual event. The main purpose of this intiative as a new concept is to promote not only tourism but also the importance of Lumbini, the global center of peace and the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the global messenger of peace. Of course domestic tourists will be attracted towards this intiative but so will foreigners.
This will in turn serve as a fundamental step in the preparation to celebrate ‘ Visit Lumbini’ next year. As a matter of fact, Buddhist tourists will thoroughly enjoy program, which is expected to become a success. Let’s hope such kinds of programs will be a support to promote Buddhism from Nepal to other parts of the world.
