Deuba denies involvement
Jan 15, 2019-
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has refuted his alleged involvement in the controversial procurement deal of two wide-body aircraft.“I was the first person to raise voice against the irregularities carried out in the procurement of aircraft,” Deuba said at a press meet organised in Dhangadhi, Kailali,on Monday.
“I had responsibility of 19 ministries when I was the prime minister. Even ministerial-level decisions were not taken at that time. I have no knowledge if secretary-level decisions were made to take ahead the aircraft procurement process,” he added.
Deuba claimed the procurement process of two Airbus A330 jets was initiated by the erstwhile government, headed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, by forming a sub-committee, and the procurement tender was invited during the prime ministership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
“The decision to act as the loan guarantor for Nepal Airlines Corporation for aircraft procurement was taken when Dahal was the prime minister,” he said, demanding the government to take action against those involved in the fund embezzlement while procuring the jets.
The NC president also accused the government of protecting the people who raped and murdered 13-year-old Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur on July 26, 2018.
