FNJ denounces threat to reporters
Jan 17, 2019-
The Federation of Nepali Journalists has strongly denounced the incident wherejournalists—including an FNJ member and reporter with Kantipur daily Biplav Bhattarai—were threatened while on duty.
Director of B&C Hospital, at Birtamod of Jhapa district, Durga Prasain, threatened journalists over the phone, even using abusive language, the FNJ stated in a press release.
According to the FNJ Ilam branch, Prasain hurled abuses when journalists tried to
confirm whether a Chaitanya Mainali was going to Ilam to meet with Dr Govinda KC. The FNJ concluded that the incident is a deed against press freedom. The federation has strongly denounced the ‘anti-press freedom’ act and demanded all sides concerned to respect the constitutional rights of journalists and to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
