In an unprecedented move, Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has initiated action against judges of the Biratnagar High Court for their ruling in a case concerning the 33 kg gold smuggling case.
Rana on Thursday called five judges of the high court to the secretariat of Judicial Council for releasing suspects on bail in the gold smuggling case.
A source at the Supreme Court identified the judges as Saranga Subedi, Nagendra Labh Karna, Thir Bahadur Karki, Umesh Raj Poudel and Umesh Kumar Singh.
The gold smuggling case is shrouded in mystery as the precious metal, lost after being impounded, is yet to be traced. The court had released suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Prajit KC, one of the suspects in the smuggling case and the murder of carrier Sanam Shakya, on general date.
