Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane gave another decent performance for Sylhet Sixers but couldn’t avert his team’s six-wicket defeat against Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday.
Lamichhane, who had played a crucial role in handing Sixers’ victory over Rangpur Riders on Wednesday with tight bowling figures of 1-18, took 1-27 against league leaders Dynamites who scampered to victory in just 17 overs in a chase of 159 reaching 163-4.
While Dynamites remained solid at the top of the table with 10 points from six matches, Sixers are unmoved at sixth with four points. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan set the tone in Dynamites’ victory making a 61-ball 41 not out with eight fours and two sixes. Andre Russell chipped in 40 off 21 with four sixes and two boundaries.
Introduced in the fifth over, Lamichhane had a dream start in the match after he bowled Rony Talukdar and conceded just three runs. He conceded eight runs in the second but was hammered for three boundaries by Shakib in his third in which he leaked 12 runs. His fourth over went for just four runs. Despite being hammered, Lamichhane still returned with the best economy among Sixers bowlers.
Lamichhane so far has taken four wickets in the tournament with the 2-16 against Comilla Victorians being his best bowling figures. Earlier in the day, skipper David Warner’s second consecutive half century had lifted Sixers to 158-8 in 20 overs. Warner made 63 off 43 with eight fours and a six.
Sixers’ next match is against Rangpur Riders on Saturday. Lamichhane can play two more matches in the BPL before joining national team for the upcoming One Day International and Twenty20 International Series against the United Arab Emirates scheduled for January 25 to February 3.
