Minister pledges to enforce minimum wage for working journalists

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has reiterated his commitment to enforce minimum wages to working journalists by all means.Inaugurating the 21st annual general meeting (AGM) of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), in Bhaktapur, on Saturday, Minister Banskota said the provisions related to minimum wage would be implemented without any compromise.
Even if the ministers are changed, the policy will remain the same, he added.
At the event, Minister Banskota urged local media to report the positive actions of the government without being inclined to any political ideology and party. He further lambasted the media for their unswerving support for Dr Govinda KC. He stated that Dr KC’s demands could not be fulfilled even if he were the Prime Minister of the country. Speaking at the same programme, lawmaker Mahesh Basnet also blamed big media houses of creating “illusions” against the government’s activities.
The AGM concluded with an eight-point declaration including the implementation of
minimum wages. On the occasion, journalist Narayan Kilambu was awarded with the Maiyadevi Journalism Award.
