Building of Gorkha model settlement incomplete
Jan 22, 2019-
Construction of an integrated model settlement for survivors of the 2015 earthquake at Laprak of Dharche Rural Municipality-4, one of the worst-affected villages, is yet to complete even though more than three years have passed since the disaster.Started by the Non-Resident Nepali Association in 2073 BS with a target to complete the project within a year, only 75 percent of construction works have completed so far, said the project manager Laxman Aryal.
The delay has been caused because the beneficiaries have failed to provide a set amount of timber for the construction, he said. The beneficiaries have to provide timber and building materials like sand and pebbles for the construction.
However, the beneficiaries said that most of the male members are away from home for employment, leaving the female members to run their households. Women and children find it difficult to collect and transport timbers required for the construction.
The project targets to complete the project in the next three months, said Aryal.
