Melamchi Project consults with ADB to expedite work
Jan 23, 2019-
The Melamchi Water Supply Project recently held discussions with donor agency Asian Development Bank (ADB) in a bid to accelerate work on the project.Committee Spokesperson Rajendra Prasad Panta told RSS that the Committee was preparing to scrap the contract with the construction company that is building the tunnel for the project. The Committee has also recommended the project’s officials to entrust the responsibilities of carrying out the remaining work to subsidiary construction companies, as it would take a while to call for tender.
Of the total length of the tunnel, measuring 27.5 kilometres from Ambathan
of Sindhupalchowk to Sundarjal of Kathmandu, work on 410 metres of tunnel is yet to be complete, shared Spokesperson Panta.
Similarly, 885 metres of the tunnel await RCC works and two of three ventilators are yet to be built. Ventilation systems have been constructed in the tunnel stretching from Gyalthum to Ambathan, but the drilling work for the ventilations needs to be carried out from Sundarijal to Sindhu and Sindhu to Gyalthum.
The installation work of a GI pipe to bring water from Sundarijal to a water-processing centre is also not complete yet. The Project has been waiting for the past 14 days to receive a response the Italian construction company CMC for scrapping the contract. Work relating to the Project would commence from February 2, according to the Committee. Further consultations with the stakeholders will be held later to carry out other works.
