All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Sunday bade farewell to the 23-member women’s football squad all set to participate in the four-nation tournament to be held from February 7 to 17 in Bhubaneswar, India.
The Nepali team, coached by former Nepali international Hari Khadka, will undergo close camp training in Birtamode, Jhapa, for five days before leaving for India on February 5.
Apart from hosts India, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal are competing in the tournament. The event will be played in a round-robin format and the two teams that tops the league rounds will make it to the finals. Nepal are taking the tournament as part of the preparations for the biennial Women’s SAFF Championship to be held in Biratnagar on March 12-22.
According to Khadka, they chose Jhapa for training to prepare for the grass turf as the team has been preparing at the artificial turf of ANFA Complex for more than a month. Nepal have drawn alongside Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan in Group ‘A’ of the SAFF Championship.
ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa, Korean Football Association President Chung Mong-gyu, among others, bade farewell to the team. ANFA also received 897 pair of football boots from KFA on the occasion.
