Feb 1, 2019-

Nepal Communist Party Co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the provision of proportional representation has been enshrined in the constitution to redress the discrimination that the state had exacted against women in the past.

Addressing the national assembly of women journalists organised by the Women Department of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in Patihani, Chitwan, on Thursday, Dahal said it was time for women leaders and professionals to demonstrate their proficiency in their respective fields.

“Women leaders should not just focus on securing reservation quota. They should instead utilise their skill and position to build a progressive and equitable society,” he said.

Dahal also called for the need to institutionalise progressive changes to achieve the goal of prosperity.

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Tham Maya Thapa urged the women journalists to work diligently to reach equal footing with men.

FNJ President Govinda Acharya said such gatherings play crucial part in bringing women journalists in leadership and decision-making roles.
