‘Commercial’ education must come to an end: Baskota

Kavrepalanchok

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, has urged private schools to stop commercialising education.

Addressing the 13th district convention of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON), in Kavrepalanchok, on Saturday, Minister Baskota said, “Mere fluency in English speaking does not mean a school is providing quality education.”

Commercialisation of education in the name of privatisation must come to an end, the Minister underscored. “Parents pay up to half a million rupees for the admission of his/her child at nursery level. Why is that?” he said at the event.

He however said the government would not padlock private schools.

“The government only closes private schools based on the report of the education commission,” the Minister added. (RSS)
