Shrestha, Ghale, Limbu make it to semi-finals

Dinesh Shrestha of Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Ek Bahadur Ghale of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) advanced to the men’s 60k division semi-finals at the Bir Ganeshman National Boxing Championships on Wednesday.
Shrestha beat Jinesh Gurung of Province 4 and Ghale dispatched Sunil Shahi of Province 3. Joining them in the last four were Prakash Limbu of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Ganesh Thapa Magar of Province 5. Limbu defeated Bharat Chand of Province 7 and Thapa Magar eliminated Sudip Ghising of Province 2.
Puran Rai of APF, Ganesh Thapa of Province 2, Mahendra Chand of Province 7 and Bimal Rokka of TAC made it to the semi-finals in the men’s 56kg division. Purna dispatched Surendra Rai of Province 1, Thapa got the better of Nabin Gharti of Province 5, Chand beat Shambhu Rajbanshi of NPC and Rokka defeated Prashant Lama of Province 6.
In the men’s 52kg division quarter-finals, Prem Chaudhary of TAC defeated Sameer Chaudhary of Province 5, Sulabh Raj Tuladhar of Province 1 got the better of Jivan Pun of Province 6 and Chandra Bahadur Thapa of NPC ousted Sagar Malla of Province 7.
Pradeep Maharjan of APF, Sushil Thapa of TAC, Bhanu Bista of Province 7 and Mohan Gurung entered the men’s 49kg division semi-finals. Maharjan beat Pawan Shrestha of Province 2, Thapa saw off Madan Krishna Dangol of Province 3, Bista knocked out Suraj Oli of Province 5 and Gurung stunned Dipesh Rai of NPC in the quarter-finals.
Diwana Sherma of NPC, Lalita Maharjan of TAC, Sushma Tamang of Province 3 and Sushila Thapa of Province 5 completed the women’s 46-48kg division semi-finals lineup. Sherma beat Nangja Budamagar of APF, Maharjan got the better of Manjita Makhim of Province 1, Tamang beat Janaki Thapa of Province 6 and Thapa saw off Prativa Shahi.
In the women’s 48-51kg quarter-finals, Bimala Shrestha of TAC beat Manisha Rai of Province 2, Mina Ghale of Province 4 defeated Sushma Pun Magar of Province 6, Roshani Rai of Province 3 dispatched Bimala Thapa of Province 5 and Mala Rai of APF overcame Aruna Yonjan of Province 1.
In the women’s 51-54kg quarter-finals, Sanju Maya Thing of APF defeated Harina Ayer of Province 7, Teji Gurung of Province 2 beat Shiwani Shrestha of Province 3 and Nisha Tamang of NPC got the better of Chandra Kala Rai of Province 1.
Making it to the women’s 60-64kg division semi-finals were Punam Rawal of TAC, Saraswati Rana of APF and Ashmita Chand of Province 5. Rawal beat Trisha Jagebu of Province 1, Rana defeated Ambika BK of Province 3 and Chand saw off Maya Chaudhary of Province 5.
Top three boxers in each weight division will receive Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively in the tournament organized by the Bir Ganeshman Singh Foundation. The best male boxer will ride home with a motorcycle while the best female boxer will receive a scooter.
