Army clinch women’s team championship

Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) clinched the women’s team title of the Bir Ganeshman National Boxing Championships with three gold, two silver and one bronze medals on Friday.
Punam Rawal of Army beat Saraswoti Rana of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club in the final to win the women’s 60-64kg division title. Chandrakala Thapa and Minu Gurung added two more gold medals for the Army club. Thapa defeated Sulabh Thapa Magar of APF in the women’s 54-57kg title bout, while Gurung got the better of Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club (NPC) to clinch the women’s 51-54kg division title.
Sangita Sunar and Mala Rai claimed gold medals for APF. Sunar beat Sabina Shrestha of Army in the women’s 57-60kg division final, while Rai defeated Bimala Shrestha of Army in the women’s 48-51kg division title bout. Diwana Sherma handed NPC the solitary gold, defeating Sushila Thapa of Province 5 in the women’s 46-48kg division final.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Maharjan of APF and Sushil Thapa of Army on Friday set the men’s 49kg division title clash. Maharjan beat Bhanu Bista of Province 7 and Thapa saw off Mohan Gurung of Province 6 in the semi-finals.
Prem Chaudhary of the Army club and Bikram Pariyar of APF advanced to the men’s 52kg division final. Chaudhary defeated Sulabh Raj Tuladhar of Province 1 and Pariyar got the better of Chandra Bahadur Thapa of NPC in the semi-finals.
Puran Rai of APF set the men’s 56kg division title match with Bimal Rokka of Army club. Rai dispatched Ganesh Thapa of Province 2 and Rokka defeated Mahendra Chand of Province 7 in the last-four clashes.
Ek Bahadur Ghale of Army and Dinesh Shrestha of APF set the men’s 60kg division championship match. Ghale got walkover from Ganesh Thapa Magar of Province 5 while Shrestha beat Prakash Limbu of APF in the semi-finals on Friday.
Bhupendra Thapa of NPC and Sonam Sarki of APF made it to the men’s 64kg division final. Thapa defeated Suresh Nepali of Army and Sarki beat Indra Sunar of Province 6 in the semi-finals. Bishnu Prasad Ghale of Army and Bikash Lama of APF set the men’s 69kg division title match. Ghale knocked out Rajesh Gurung of Province 1 and Lama saw off Manish Dangol of Province 3 in the last-four bouts.
Suman Karki of APF and Deepak Shrestha of Army made it to the men’s 75kg division final. Karki beat Diwash Gurung of Province 2 and Shrestha got the better of Diwesh Bhumilal of Province 3 in the semi-finals. Rabi Sunar of Army and Keshar Khatri of Province 5 set the men’s 81kg division title match. Sunar defeated Hikmat Bahadur Shahi of Province 7 and Khatri knocked out Sushan Pun of Province 4.
