Normal life in Rukumkot has been affected due to the prolonged prohibitory order imposed by the District Administration Office (DAO) last week.
Locals said the prohibitory order since last week has created a shortage of daily essentials and construction materials in Rukumkot.
Vehicular movement has come to a halt in Sisne Rural Municipality-5 and 6.
People complained that the prohibitory order has made life difficult for them and many travellers.
“Normal life has been greatly affected due to the negligence of the concerned stakeholders,” said Yagya Prakash Malla, Chairman of Rukumkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “There will be a shortage of food grains if the prohibitory order continues.”

Residents of Rukumkot, the temporary district headquarters, and Golkhada have been staging protest rallies demanding that their town be named the permanent district headquarters. Security has been tightened in the border points of Rukumkot. A temporary police post has been set-up in the border area by the Rukum West Police to control any untoward activities.
Chief District Officer Mitralal Sharma said the prohibitory order will continue for a few more days. “The prohibitory order has been imposed specifically to maintain order in Rukumkot,” said Sharma.
A Cabinet decision on January 25, 2018 had named Golkhada as the permanent headquarters of Rukum (East), prompting protests in Rukumkot.
However, the Supreme Court on February 1, 2018 had issued an interim order not to implement the Cabinet decision. The final hearing of the case has been scheduled for February 10, 2019.
Rukum East was identified as a district on October 5, 2017. The new district fell into a dispute over naming the district headquarters within six months of its formation. Locals of Rukumkot are demanding to make Rukumot the permanent district headquarters whereas the Golkhada residents are also in their own struggle to retain the status of district headquarters.
