Darkness halts Sankata-Kakarvitta match

The inaugural match of the Budha Subba Gold Cup football tournament between Sankata Club and Kakarvitta Football Training Centre of Jhapa was halted due to darkness after a prolonged tiebreaker failed to produce result on Sunday.
The regular 90 minutes of play had ended in a 2-2 deadlock pushing the match to tiebreaker. After even the tiebreaker finished in a 4-4 deadlock, the match headed for a sudden death penalty shootout which was also tied at 5-5 when darkness prevailed making it difficult for players to see the ball. The match will continue on Monday morning to decide the winners.
Cedric Aba, Dipesh Ale Magar, Roman Limbu, Laxman Ruchal converted while Amit Tamang hit the woodwork for Sankata, the runner-up of the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League. Yogesh Gurung, Dilen Loktan, Ashish Chapagain and Sushil Rai scored while Bikash Rai missed out for Kakarvitta.
Karna Limbu and Pujan Nagarkoti scored for Kakarvitta while Sankata rallied with goals from Jay Gurung and Dipesh Ale Magar. The champions of the eight-team tournament will receive Rs 800,000 and the runners-up will earn Rs 400,000. The best player of the tournament will get a motorcycle. One spectator will also receive a two-wheeler through a lucky draw.
The top scorer will get Rs 35,000 while the best forward, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper will receive Rs 15,000 each. An emerging player from Dharan will also be feted with Rs 15,000. Nepal Police Club will take on Sahara Pokhara on Monday.
