Dauphins Family of Cameroon defeated Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the second Makwanpur Gold Cup football tournament in Hetauda on Sunday.

Yannik Owane’s late second half goal was sufficient for Dauphins to secure a place in the last four. Yannik unleashed a powerful shot from the area to score in the 79th minute after being set up by Petnga. The goal scorer was declared man-of-the-match and received Rs 10,000. It was the fifth defeat of APF against Dauphins in as many matches. Dauphins will meet the winners of the match between Three Star Club and Saraswati Youth Club in the semi-finals.

Dauphins controlled the match but struggled to create chances on regular basis. Dauphins custodian Priso Njanga denied a powerful freekick from APF’s Sudip Shikhrakar in the 57th minute, the first real chance for the departmental team. Dauphins then wasted a golden scoring chance in the fading moments of the match as Silo Nanga failed to beat the last man Shikrakar in one-versus-one encounter.

Dauphins manager Ashik Thapa said his team failed to play to their potential due to poor ground conditions but they would come up with much improved showing in the next match. APF coach Sudip Shrestha rued of his team’s poor finishing. Nepal Police Club will take on Friends Club on Monday. Participated in by 10 teams, the tournament offers Rs 800,000 to the winners and Rs 400,000 to runners-up.
