Industrialist Diwakar Golchha passes away

Prominent industrialist and former lawmaker Diwakar Golchha passed away on Tuesday. He was 67. Golchha had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment in Chennai, India, and had received a kidney transplant two weeks ago.

Golchha served as the first vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry from 2005-08. He was the elder brother of Shekhar Golchha, the current senior vice-president of the federation. Golchha was elected to the first Constituent Assembly in 2008 representing the Nepali Congress under the proportional representation category.

A co-owner of the Golchha Organisation, one of the country’s leading production businesses, Diwakar Golchha is credited with expanding the organisation established by his grandfather Ram Lal Golchha. He was the son of Hulas Chand Golchha. He is also credited with establishing the Hulas brand of corrugated sheets, wires, food and sugar. Family sources said the cremation would be held on Thursday.
